“Following two years in the repossession department of a regional firm I felt a move to London and the professional negligence sector was a logical progression in my professional life. I was particularly attracted to TLT because I knew that it is a firm where conventions are broken in an attempt to meet the demands of a changing market.
My role here involves acting for mortgage lenders where following repossession and sale (due to the borrower's default) the lender has suffered a significant loss. Our team investigates whether there was any negligence on the part of the completing solicitors or the valuers, and if so, we pursue the negligent party to recover the lender's loss.
In my team there is a wide range of client requirements and each of our solicitors has their own personal style. This means life here is varied and full of interesting tasks. Time restraints can be tight in this line of work, which means each day is fast paced and office life has a real buzz.
Currently I'm assisting with a project that involves over 80 transactions, and various defendants. The project requires a high level of attention to detail and it is essential to be highly organised. From initial investigations of any potential claim to indentify whether there is a viable claim to completing cost breakdowns for settlements, I'm always working on a variety of issues. There is plenty of opportunity to really get involved in cases, including drafting replies to the other sides and researching case law.
The supervisors in the department are very approachable and always happy to encourage my personal development. Unlike some firms, the Partners are very keen to be part of the team and have a positive impact on everyday life.
TLT is distinctive from other firms as it is open-minded, ambitious and entrepreneurial in culture. Aside from the work, the London office is very sociable and full of serious determined workers who know when to unwind. We have active charity and social committees and there are often more informal get-togethers.
In a challenging economic climate TLT has done its best to retain staff and the professional negligence team is, in fact, growing. In my opinion TLT has maintained its reputation of handling difficult situations with dignity and respect for all those involved.
The move to new offices at St Paul's is a mark of TLT's rising presence in the legal sector, which can only be taken as a positive sign for anyone wishing to join a dedicated, hard working, supportive and, last but not least, fun team of people at an exciting time for the company.”
